Choosing a Helmet

Choosing a Helmet

So maybe you are shopping for a new helmet on a budget. What are some things you might want to look for when selecting such an important piece of safety equipment? For me, I prefer a full face helmet, with good ventilation, and a nice snug fit. Getting hit in the head while riding is just something I have found that I have to get accustomed to. I have never had a serious motorcycle accident. I have laid a few bikes over when I was a child, but I have never had to suffer through anything which got me seriously injured. I did an internet search for pricing helmets after selling my favorite helmet last year. I really regret selling my KBC helmet, but the visor was damaged when my trunk was ransacked by someone in my driveway while I was sleeping. I went ahead and made the purchase of a GLX helmet. It was on the lower end pricewise, but still met the basic requirements that I was searching for. I wanted a full faced helmet, with good ventilation, and a good DOT rating, with an inexpensive price tag. The helmet came with a bag to protect it. It appears to be a solid built helmet. The helmet fits my head snuggly. I definitely do not want to have a loose helmet that I have to worry about injuring me if I do have a wreck where the helmet could twist and injure me. Of course there is no guarantee that a helmet will protect you in all situations. Having protective gear is a precaution, but not a guarantee. Purchasing a helmet over the internet can be a gamble as well. You have no idea if the size ratings are accurate. You have no idea if the helmet is going to meet your quality expectations. My first helmet I purchased at a Honda motorcycle dealership and it was on sale for only around thirty five dollars. The decals were a little lewd, which I did not mind, so I got a pretty good deal. The helmet was a little too tight if I would be honest with myself, but I simply loved it. If I could find the same helmet I would buy it immediately. Anyway, if anyone out there is reading this article and would like to add some comments, I would love to get some feedback on helmets. What helmets have you used? Did you like them? Are there any shopping tips that you recommend? We would love to hear from you. Stay safe and have fun.
